Bodacious Body Positivity

Hi lads and lassies!

Today we’re going to have a little chat about body positivity! Now this is mainly for the ladies, but people of every gender should feel free to take positive vibes from this too.

I would like to start off by saying that I am by no means suggesting that we eat ourselves silly, body positivity should exist within a healthy lifestyle so eat your veggies people!

At the moment amidst the wave of body positivity there are people who are suggesting that it encourages obesity and unhealthy eating. That is not what I’m doing, but I’m also not going to suggest that a size zero is something everyone should aspire to (no disrespect to my skinny readers, all sizes should be celebrated including you!).

There are literally millions of different ways to be healthy in weight and size; I’m not trying to suggest that being morbidly obese is something to aim for. But what about the people who have muffin tops, and stretch marks and big calves and double chins, should they just sit inside not eating and crying over the way they look? No. dont_be_a_dick_03.jpg

Just like there are millions of different ways to be healthy, there are millions of different ways to be beautiful. And even if someone is morbidly obese, who the hell are we to judge them for it? Remember, you have no idea what’s going on in someone else’s life. Don’t be a dick.

Now my people with bellies that jiggle, with stretch marks on their hips, my lovelies with disabilities, and bones that stick out and hair in strange places and acne and scars and every weird and wonderful imperfection on this earth, say it with me; I’m not perfect and I’m hot!

If you say that in the mirror three times and mean it, rumour has it that Oprah appears and high fives you.

This is a hard time of year for people who don’t love their bodies, and even for a lot of people who do; self esteem can be hard! It’s hard to hide imperfections in summer and we’re often put in unfamiliar situations with new people where we are expected to show body confidence at the drop of a hat.

Just know that a lot of people feel exactly the way you do; please don’t hide away because some dickhead on the internet who thinks people who aren’t perfect shouldn’t be allowed outside keeps tweeting about it.

Get yourself a pretty cocktail, some sunblock and a bright swimming costume and pretend you’re a mermaid you beautiful bastard!
