Give a brief story of how your blog started

My blog started when I was in my second year of uni. I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life, and toying with the idea of journalism/writing, and so I decided to start a blog to see if I had any talent for it, and if I did, to find my voice.

Then one day I got on a train filled with drunk Scots and a clogged toilet. The one beside me spent two hours rolling cigarettes on the table and then the one after him spent an hour opening beer bottles with his ring.

Then another day, my printer broke an hour before I had to hand two massive assignments in and I ended up running the half an hour walk to uni in ten minutes in my pyjamas clutching a pen drive to print my assignment off and hand it (I managed it if you were wondering).

It was then I realised that if Bridget Jones was 20, this would probably be her life.

So I decided to start a kind of diary, which spiralled into a beauty/books/depression and anxiety hotchpotch, and here we are now!

Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers

Advice piece numero uno is don’t expect to know what you’re doing straight away. Give yourself time to fiddle with your blog, change you style, your content, your layout, just allow yourself to try new things and settle into blogging. If you look back at my earlier posts, you’ll see that my style then was so different to how it is now.

My second piece of advice is don’t be afraid to experiment. I wrote poetry for about four months; don’t bother looking for it, it’s all completely deleted because I was a horrific poet. But I tried it and now I know. A blog usually doesn’t generate money and it can be anonymous if you want, so it’s the perfect platform to try something new. If you fail, who cares? Blogs give you immense freedom, use that.
